He was born July 29, 1908 in Nebraska to Cyrus "Henry" and Margaret Ellen (Niceschwander) Strayer and moved to the local area in 1942 when he worked in the shipyards at Vancouver during WWII.
In 1971, he retired from Longview Fibre Co. after 25 years. He was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Kelso. He was an active hobbyist and enjoyed gardening, woodworking, electronics and his family.
He married Shirley Koenig Oct. 17, 1942. She survives him at home. Also, surviving are five daughters, Charlotte Chapman & Linda Bunn of Kalama; Pat Strayer & Ellen Strayer of Longview, and Susan Strayer of Vancouver,two sons, Chuck & Michael of Longview; 17 grandchildren and six great grandchildren.
Charlie was the grandson of Miley & Elmira Strayer and the great grandson of Martin & Rachel (Ralya) Strayer.
