Cyrus Henry Strayer, eldest son of Miley and Elmira Strayer, was born in Mercer County, Pennsylvania on August 14, 1859, and passed away at his home in Franklin on June 11, 1943, at the age of 83 years, 9 months and 28 days. He came with his parents when a young man to Mankato, Kansas, where he married Margaret Ellen Niceschwander in 1883. Mr. and Mrs. Strayer to took a homestead in the vicinity and were among the early pioneers of that county. To this union were born eight children, two of whom preceded him in death.

In 1903 he moved with his family to Red Cloud where he lived until coming to Franklin in 1912. Mrs. Strayer passed away in 1913 and he later married Mable McClurg in 1914. To this union was born, three children.

Mr. Strayer has been an invalid for over four years.

He leaves to mourn his passing his wife, four sons, Ernest of Loveland, Colorado, Miley of McCook, Charles of Alliance and Harry at home in Franklin; also five daughters, Violet Leggett of Reedsport, Oregon, Elmira Hughes of Franklin, Nettie Eaton of Goodland, Kansas, Ethel Strayer of Cody, Wyoming and Lola Laurent of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. Also, surviving are one stepson, Ellsworth McClurg of Hastings and three brothers, Will, Bert and Frank all of Lincoln.

Funeral services were held Sunday June 13, at 2:30 o'clock at Hutchins Funeral Home, Rev. M. R. Willis in charge. Burial was in Greenwood cemetery.
