Heman Hurlburt (1773-1853) was the first son of Moses Hurlburt Jr.(1750-1816) and his wife Patience (1752-1815 est.), whom he married in 1771. Heman married his wife, Hannah Mosher (1780-1857), in 1798, and they became successful farmers. They had sixteen children, of whom fourteen survived to adulthood. They were a devout family following the Wesleyan Methodist teachings of Barbara Heck. Five Hurlburt sons became Methodist preachers, spreading the Word in the area and beyond. Three became lawyers, following the faith of law, and others continued farming the land. Both Heman and Hannah lived long lives.
