Heman Hurlburt Jr. was the fourth of sixteen children of Heman and Hannah Hurlburt. He is a United Empire Loyalist descendant. His grandfather, Mose Hurlburt Jr. of Arlington, VT, fought with Gen Burgoyne's army in 1777 and the King's Rangers in 1783 before being removed to Augusta, where his father was born. Heman Jr. married twice, having five children by his first wife and one son, Richard, by his second. His son George W. Hurlburt, M.D., signed the death certificate of his brother Sylvester in Augusta. Death certificate.
