Toye E. Murphy

Toye Etta Murphy, age 83, of Brandenburg, Kentucky, passed away on Sunday, Feb. 8, 2015.

She was born in Florence, Alabama on March 29, 1931, to the late Robert Christopher Rogers and Etta Parrish Rogers. Along with her parents, Toye was preceded in death by her sisters, Gertie, Dorothy, Annie, Daisey, and Mary Ester, brothers, Frank, Doyle, Druey, Jonesy, and Huey, as well as ten half brothers and sisters.

Toye and her family joined the Brandenburg United Methodist Church after moving to Brandenburg in 1959. Toye enjoyed bowling and was an avid golfer and long-time member of the Hillcrest Lady's Golf Association.

She is survived by her loving husband of 67 years, Earl Murphy; one son, Jerry (Martha) Murphy, of Goose Creek, South Carolina; one daughter, Shealia Murphy, of Brandenburg; grandchildren, Lisa Murphy, of Boynton Beach, Florida, Lorna Ritchie(Rodney) Alexander, of Louisville, Kentucky, and Robbie Murphy-Owens, of Louisville, Kentucky; and great-grandchildren, Tommy Horton, Skyler Ritchie, Kael Murphy-Owens, and Katie Alexander; sisters, Ruby (Granville) Johnson, of Florence, Alabama, and Vernette Arnold, of Florence, Alabama; and one brother, Burlon Eugene (Annette) Rogers, of Florence, Alabama.

Funeral services will be held at 4:30 p.m. EST on Sunday, Feb. 15, 2015, at the Brandenburg United Methodist Church, 215 Broadway, Brandenburg, KY 40108, with Pastor Jim Robinson officiating. Burial will take place at a later date in the Kentucky Veterans Cemetery in Radcliff, Kentucky.

Visitation will be held at the Bruington-Jenkins-Sturgeon Funeral Home on Saturday, Feb. 14, 2015, from 4-7 p.m. and at the Brandenburg United Methodist Church on Sunday from 1:30 p.m. until the time of the service.

Expressions of sympathy may be made in the form of donations to the Paralyzed Veterans of America, Kentucky-Indiana Chapter, 4801 Paoli Pike, Floyds Knobs, IN 47119.
