MUSCATINE, Iowa - Mary M. Ellis, 78, of Muscatine, died at her home Sunday March 18, 2001.
Services will be 2 p.m. Tuesday at the Geo. M. Wittich-Lewis Funeral Home. Burial will be at Greenwood Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. Monday at the Geo. M. Wittich-Lewis Funeral Home.
Memorials may be made to the Rheumatoid Arthritis Foundation.
Mrs. Ellis was born Sept. 22, 1922, in Muscatine, the daughter of Virgil and Ruth Boyce Bailey. On July 1, 1940 she married William Herbert Truitt in Muscatine. He preceded her in death in 1945. On April 20, 1946, she married Floyd Everett Ellis in Muscatine. He preceded her in death in 1993. In earlier years Mary worked in a button factory and nursing home and then spent several years babysitting out of her home, which she dearly enjoyed.
She was a past member of the Muscatine Moose Women.
She loved to bake, fish and camp. She especially enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Survivors include three sons, David Joel Truitt of Fruitland, Herbert William Truitt of Troy, and Larry Dean Ellis and his wife, Ruby, of Muscatine; two daughters, Joyce Ellen Scott of Muscatine and Judy Carol Archer and her husband, Roger, of Muscatine; 26 grandchildren and 29 great-grandchildren; three brothers, John Bailey and his wife, Gloria, Allen Bailey and his wife, Iola, and James Bailey and his wife, Helen, all of Floris; two sisters, Ruth Wonder of Wapello and Emma ''Daisy'' Rupe of Ottumwa; and a brother-in-law, Harold Kammerer of Muscatine.
She was preceded in death by her parents; both husbands; a daughter, Patricia White; a stepson, Tommy Truitt; two grandsons; one granddaughter; four sisters, Virgiline, Betty, Dorothy and Nancy; and one brother, Bob.
