Bertha Drees, 97, Hoisington, formerly of Hays, died Friday, Oct. 5, 2007, at Clara Barton Hospital, Hoisington. She was born Nov. 9, 1909, in rural Hays to Joseph and Margaret (Befort) Binder.

She married Fredrick Drees on Feb. 10, 1931, in Hays. He preceded her in death on May 29, 1942.

She owned and operated Drees Cleaners, Hoisington, prior to retirement in 1976. She was a member of St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church and Altar Society, both of Hoisington, and was a member of the Better Business Bureau.

Survivors include two sons, Tony Drees and wife, Lila, Athens, Texas, and Kenneth Drees and wife, Maria, Olathe; a brother, Paul Binder, Hays; a sister, Helen Gross, Hays; 11 grandchildren, Fred Drees, Tim Drees, Carma Strayer, Randy Drees, Kelly Anthony, Christy Harmon, Marc Drees, Brad Drees, Mitch Drees, Shawn Ferris and Brian Drees; and 15
great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by two sons, Virgil and Eddy Drees, a daughter, Norma Lee Drees, four brothers, Isadore, Alois, Adolph and Julius Binder, a sister, Mary Lafferty, and three grandchildren, Amy Drees, Julie Drees and David Drees.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at St. John the Evangelist Church, Hoisington; burial in St. Joseph's Cemetery, Hays. Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday at Nicholson-Ricke Funeral Home, Hoisington. A vigil will be at 7 p.m. Monday, followed by an Altar Society rosary, both at the funeral home.

Memorials are suggested to National Kidney Foundation, Juvenile Diabetes Association or St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church in care of the funeral home. The family extends their gratitude to caregivers, Marge, Angel and Carma.
