Helen Gross, 100, died Monday, January 2, 2012 at the Hays Medical Center.
She was born July 14, 1911 at Munjor, Kansas the daughter of Joe and Margaret (Befort) Binder. She married Leo Gross on May 10, 1932 in Munjor. He preceded her in death October 8, 1995. She was a farm wife and homemaker and a member of the St. Francis Catholic Church and the St. Francis Christian Mothers, both of Munjor.
Survivors include her daughter, Mary Alice Unrein of Hays, brother Paul Binder and his wife Ruby of Hays, brother in law Eugene Lafferty of Ramona, CA, and daughter in law Carol (Gross) Canfield of Fayetteville, Arkansas, grandchildren Helen Pianalto of Denver, CO, Becky Wilcox and husband Alan of Colorado Springs, CO, Stacey Biessler and husband Troy of Hoisington, KS, Ginger Brown of Fayetteville, Arkansas, Jackie Schumacher and husband Craig of Wichita, Bobbi Dreiling of Hays, and Bonnie Olson of Scottsdale, Arizona. Nineteen great grandchildren and ten great great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, a son James W. Gross, son in law Charles Unrein, brothers, Isadore Binder, Alois Binder, Adolph Binder, and Julius Binder, and sisters Mary Lafferty and Bertha Drees.
Funeral services will be at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, January 5, 2012 at the St. Francis Catholic Church, Munjor. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Friends may call on Wednesday from 4 until 8 pm and on Thursday from 9:30 until 10:30 all at the Hays Memorial Chapel Funeral Home, 20th and Pine. A St. Francis Christian Mothers rosary will be at 6:00 followed by a parish vigil service at 6:30, both on Wednesday at the funeral home.
