Andrew Jackson English Jr. was the youngest son of Andrew Jackson English and Andrew Mable (May) Williams English.

Jay served in the U.S. Navy, following in the footsteps of three older brothers.

He met Rosemary (Penny) Theresa Schwartz and they married on May 8, 1945.
