Christina Hosie was born in Scotlnd. She married George Elder on Feb. 25, 1802 in Falkirk, Stirling, Scotland. To this union were born seven children: Jane, George, John, Janet, James, David and Margaret. George came to Canada by himself and left Christina in Scotland with her children. She was pregnant with her 7th child when he left.
Christina brought all 7 children with her when she immigrated. The youngest child, Margaret, had been born after George left for Canada. They met for the first time when Margaret was 2 years old.
Christina settled with her husband and family in the Hinchinbrooke area. She died there in 1835 and was buried in the "Scotch Church Burial Grounds".
Personal note by Donald M. Elder (1999): At this time there are no grave markers left to identify the "Scotch Church Burying Grounds" but this area is along side of the Chateauguay river, behind the Braithwaite building and the Masonic Hall. At some time, and for some reason, someone or some group decided that the graves and markers should be moved. This was done, and everything was supposed to end up in the Huntingdon Cemetery which is on F. Cleyn Street. I have never been able to find George's grave stone.
