He married Eleanor Marie Pfannenstiel on May 9, 1938, in Hays. She died Dec. 12, 1997.
He was a lifelong dairy farmer. He was a member of the Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church, the Ellis County Soil Conservation District, the American Milk Producers Inc. and the Kansas Western Horseman's Association.
Survivors include a son, Don Binder and wife, Elizabeth, Montrose, Colo.; three daughters, Elaine Horne and husband, Ron, Cortez, Colo., and Kathleen Ward and husband, Les, and Barb Elliott and husband, Jeff, all of Hays; two brothers, Paul Binder, Hays, and Julius Binder, Madris, Ore.; two sisters, Helen Gross, Hays, and Bertha Drees, Hoisington; nine grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by three brothers, Isidore, Alois and Adolf Binder; and a sister, Mary Lafferty.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church, Hays; burial in St. Joseph Cemetery, Hays. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. today, from 2 to 8 p.m. Monday and from 8:30 a.m. to service time Tuesday, all at Hays Memorial Chapel Funeral Home, Hays. A parish vigil service will be at 6:30 p.m. Monday at the mortuary.
Memorials are suggested to the Hospice of Hays Memorial Center or to Masses, in care of the funeral home.
