Opal E. Bolden-Mackey, 84, of Hibbing and formerly of Dennison, Minn., and Northfield, Minn., Longview, Wash., and Watertown, S.D., died Thursday, April 28, 2011, in Heritage Manor in Chisholm.

She was born May 20, 1926, in Loyalton, S.D., the daughter of Delbert and Etta Mae (Hardy) Smock. She graduated from Deer River High School. She was united in marriage to Carl Bolden Sr., and following his death to Roy Mackey in 1998.

Opal worked as a homemaker, and also held positions at McDonald’s and Leisure Hills. She was a member of Our Savior’s Lutheran Church, the VFW Post 8510 Auxiliary, and was a lifetime member of the Michigan Home for Children. She loved spending time with her family, and enjoyed crocheting, fishing, hunting, camping, gardening, and enjoyed the outdoors. Her favorite holiday was Christmas with the family.

Opal is survived by her husband Roy; children Steven (Jacquelyn) Bolden of Richardson, Texas, Carl Bolden Jr. of River Falls, Wis., Jerry (Rosmarie) Bolden of Hibbing, Ellen (Howard) Barker of Hibbing, Neva Bolden of Mosinee, Wis., Jean (Dixon) Kirsch of St. Helens, Ore., Jo (Gary) Johnson of Maple Grove, Minn., Dennis (Jodi) Mackey of Great Falls, Mont., Kenneth Mackey of Maple Grove, Minn., and Leroy (Anne) Mackey of Hibbing; sisters Melva Kurpierz of Hibbing, Mavis Grebenc of Inverness, Fla., and Patricia Hilliard of Panacea, Fla.; 19 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren, one great-great grandchild; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her first husband, Carl Bolden Sr.; brothers William, Franklin and Chuck Dickerson, Henry, Delbert, Ernie and Glenn Smock; sisters Edna and Valetta Smock, Lynette Mackey and Mabel Edwards Oyler; and three grandchildren, Dawn Partlow, Eric Partlow and Cleve Hartenstein.

Funeral: Funeral service will be at 3 p.m. Monday, May 2, in Our Savior’s Lutheran Church with the Rev. Dan Smith officiating.

Visitation: will be from 1 p.m. until the 3 p.m. funeral service at the church.

Burial: Interment will be at a later date in the Maple Hill Cemetery in Hibbing.
