Melva Maxine Kurpierz
Melva M. Kurpierz, 81, Hibbing, died peacefully at home on Sunday, August 25, 2013, after a long courageous battle with breast cancer. She was born in Wirt, MN on Nov. 24, 1931, one of 17 children born to Delbert and Etta Mae Smock. Melva and Richard Kurpierz were united in marriage on November 7, 1953 and raised seven children. She had worked as a waitress at various area restaurants for nearly 60 years. Melva had a passion for gardening. She loved her animals and sitting on her deck, as well as spending time with her children and grandchildren.
She is survived by seven children: Roberta DeNieu of Colorado, Lorelei Kurpierz of Arizona, Margaret (Roger) Williams of Idaho, Hugh Kurpierz of Minnesota, Frank (Steph) Kurpierz of Arizona, Kevin Kurpierz of Bahrain, and Barb (John) Miller of Minnesota; eleven grandchildren: Timothy DeNieu, Ryan DeNieu, Michael DeNieu, Danielle Morgan, Stephen Piῇa, Krystal Kurpierz, John Kurpierz, Katie Kurpierz, Mikaela Kurpierz, Amanda Miller, and John Miller; and five great-grandchildren: Zackary DeNieu, Joshua DeNieu, Reef Piῇa, Nick Coburn, and Sofia Coburn.
