Harriet was the daughter of Levinah W. Jackson Murphy and Jeremiah Burns Murphy.
Married first to William M. Pike, December 29, 1842 in Clark County, Missouri. The Pike's had two daughters, Naomi Levina Pike, age 3, and Catherine, and infant, when they crossed the country with the Donner Party. Her husband was killed in a shooting accident and little Catherine succumbed to starvation at the encampments.
Also surviving were two sisters and two brothers: Sarah Ann Charlotte Murphy Foster, Meriam Marjory "Mary" Murphy Covillaud, William Green Murphy and Simon Peter Murphy.
After her rescue, Harriet met and married Michael C. Nye on June 24, 1847 at Sutter's Fort, Sacramento, California. After living in Marysville for several years, they moved to Oregon where Harriet died at the age of 46. Her body was returned to Marysville to be buried. The Nyes had at least one child, a son Harry, who died when he was less than two years old.
