Levinah (sometimes spelled Lavina in historical accounts) Murphy was the daughter of Frederick and Charlotte, nee Vinson, Jackson. She married Jeremiah Burns Murphy on December 19, 1825 in Union County, South Carolina. Jeremiah was born March 3, 1805 in Union County and died October 5, 1839 in Weakley County. Levinah, at age 29, was a widow with seven children.
Two of her sons, John Landrum and Lemuel B.; two grandchildren, Catherine Pike and Jeremiah George Foster; and a son-in-law, William Montgomery Pike, all died that winter.
Family members to survive were three daughters and two sons:

Harriet Frances Murphy Pike Nye
Meriam Marjory "Mary" Murphy Covillaud
William Green Murphy
and Simon Peter Murphy; a granddaughter, Naomi Levina Pike Schenck; and a son-in-law, William McFadden Foster.
