He said he was born in "Old Emma" in Crosby County, Texas, and did not have a Birth Certificate.
His parents divorced in 1923, and his father remarried to Wreatha Lee WELLS, giving him half-brothers and a half-sister: Orvel, Bruster, Wells "Earnest", "Jack"ie, & Edna Mary.
He also had a step-sister, Hazel (TRIBBLE) VOGLER, and a step-brother, William Austin ("Bill") ADAMS. Alvin was raised by his father, but at the age of 19, he went out to California for awhile, to be near his mother. He then returned to Texas.
Alvin met and married Frieda Dorothy Mae FRIEBEL in April 1932, the daughter of immigrants, Friedrich "Otto" FRIEBEL of Germany & Minna NEUMAN/NEWMAN of Poland/Russia. Together, they had seven sons: Henry, Alvin "Wade", Johney, Cullum, Joe, Bobby/Rodney, & Bennie... and seven daughters: Winona, Ruby, Neva, Iva, Lennie, Dorothy, & Minnie.
Bennie & Minnie are twins. Twins seem to run in the family, as Alvin's uncles Rufus & Luther HILLIS were twins, as well as his grandfather, James F.L.B. HILLIS & sister Julia L.M. "Ellen" HILLIS.
After nearly 39 years of marriage, Alvin's wife Frieda passed, and in May 1973 he married a second time, to Lydia Caroline MARTIN. They had no children together, altho she had a son, Don, & a daughter, Judy, from a previous marriage.
Alvin's occupation was Boilermaker/Welder, and he retired from Chicago Bridge & Iron.
