Iva Nell HILLIS HAREN died peacefully on October 20, 2023 in Winnsboro, Texas at the
age of 77. She was born in Roscoe, Texas.
Iva requested that her body be donated to science, followed by cremation.
She was the daughter of the late Alvin Burton & Frieda D. M. (FRIEBEL) HILLIS, and the
granddaughter of immigrant grandparents Friedrich "Otto" FRIEBEL and Wilhelmine
"Minnie" NEUMANN. Paternal grandparents were Cullom Lyhugh HILLIS and Gertrude
Louisa WARD.
She worked as a Medication Aide for several years in surrounding area nursing homes
until failing health caused her to retire. She loved to travel, and did so as much as she
could. She not only lived in the northeastern part of Texas, she had also lived on the
Texas coast and Kentucky. She married Timothy Lee HOPSON in 1964, Patrick Leon
MARLOW in 1967, and Leland Clyde HAREN in 1976. Leland passed in 1996.
She is survived by three children: Cynthia HOPSON SADLER, Joetta HOPSON THOMAS,
and David Eugene MARLOW. Four brothers: Johney W. HILLIS and Cullum O. HILLIS of
Sulphur Springs, TX, Joe Roy HILLIS Sr. of Cresswell, OR, and Bennie E. HILLIS of
Scurry, TX. Six sisters: Winona R. HILLIS YATES of Sulphur Springs, TX, Ruby M.
HILLIS ATKINS of Lake Kiowa, TX, Neva J. HILLIS YARBROUGH of Cedar Hill, TX,
Lennie F. HILLIS SHARROW of Kimball, MI, Dorothy S. HILLIS SHIELDS of Lone Oak,
TX, and Minnie P. HILLIS REAGOR of Vidor, TX. Six grandchildren: Crystal CHALK,
