Theodore Bergman Folden was born in Kafjord, Norway on May 21, 1869. He immigrated with his parents to this country in 1883. His first home in this country was in the state of Michigan where he and his parents resided for five years. They later moved further west in what is now the Holt and Newfolden communities where he resided until he passed away on May 25 at 8:30 p.m. at the age of 79 years and 4 days, after an illness of about 6 months.
On December 22, 1896, he was united in marriage to Amalia Hanson by the late Rev. Brydeson. To this union were born 13 children. Mrs. Folden and six of the children survive the passing of their dear husband and kind father. They are: Bergman, Holt; Jennie (Mrs. C. W. Hutchison), Aberdeen, SD; Mabel (Mrs. Edwin Hanson), Holt; Doris (Mrs. Dallas Harris), Taylorville, Illinois; Arvid, Devils Lake, ND; Edward, Boston, Mass; and Alma (Mrs. Torrey Johnson), Conn. He also leaves to mourn one brother, Arnold J. Folden of Newfolden and 34 grandchildren and a number of nephews, nieces, and other relatives. All the children were present at the funeral services except Rev. Edward Folden of Boston, Mass., and Mrs. Dallas Harris of Taylorville, Illinois.
He was preceded in death by three sons: Hilmer, Johnnie and Lawrence, who was killed while serving in the U.S. Army in France during World War II. He was also preceded in death by his aged parents, a half-brother, John Johnson, who passed away 5 or 6 years ago, and one brother, James, of Oregon who just recently passed away.
Mr. Folden spent most of his life in the occupation of farming having retired from active duty in 1936. During this time he spent more than 40 years on the local town board. At various times he also served on the school board, at one time the director and secretary of the Creamery board and also served on the Oakland Park Sanitorium Board in Thief River Falls. Mr. Folden was a charter member of the Mission Church of Holt. In civic community and church affairs, he was much interested serving faithfully and willingly as a Christian citizen. Blessed be his memory.
Funeral services were conducted on Monday, May 31, at 1:30 p.m. from the Evangelical Free Church of Holt. Rev. Ernest J. Vick, pastor, officiated, assisted by Rev. Thv Myhrer and Rev. G. Raymond Carlson. Special numbers in song were rendered by A. O. Gudim, Verna and Marian Nollom and Rev. and Mrs. Carlson. A large number of memorial gifts were given to various gospel radio programs and to Missions in memory of Mr. Folden. Interment was made in the Folden cemetery. Warren Sheaf, June 2, 1948
