DEATH ENDS LIFE JOURNEY OF 93 YEARS
Living more than a score of years over the allotted three score and ten Mrs. Elizabeth Scherer died Saturday night at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Ernest Duebner, 1024 South Tenth street. She was ninety-three and the demise was due to infirmities incident to old age.
The funeral will be held tomorrow morning with service at St. Boniface Catholic church at 9 o'clock. Rev. Kersten officiating. Burial will be at Calvary.
Born September 29, 1831(sic) in Germany, Mrs. Scherer came to this country at the age of four with her parents, the family settling at Mequon, near Milwaukee. At the age of eighteen she was married to Matt Scherer and two years later the family came to Manitowoc county, taking up their home on a farm at Newton where she made her home for seventy years. Her husband died eighteen years ago and Mrs. Scherer came to make her home with her daughter last April.
Surviving her are five children, Mrs. Ernest Duebner, Mrs. Frank Zych, of this city, Nick and Peter of West Allis and John of Newton. Three children preceded her in death. There are also thirty grand-children and thirty-seven great grandchildren.
Mrs. Scherer, who was Miss Elizabeth Backus before her marriage, came of a long lived family. Her mother lived to be 105, dying at St. Nazianz twenty-four years ago.
