Husband of (1) V. Eunice Cornett Hackler and (2) Laura E. McGrady Hackler.

John Wiley Hackler, 88, who resided a short distance south of Galax, just off Highway 89, died in a Galax hospital Thursday, Oct. 6, 1966. He had been in declining health for the past few years.

Mr. Hackler was born in Grayson County, at Comers Rock, July 30, 1878, to Steve and Lena Roark Hackler.

Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Laura Ennis McGrady Hackler, to whom he was married on Dec. 29, 1909. He was a retired farmer, and moved to Galax in 1938.

Surviving are three daughters, Mrs. Blanche Bagwell, Mrs. Vena Edwards and Mrs. Mildred Phipps, all of Galax; eight sons, Fred Hackler, Maiden Hackler and Wayne Hackler, all of Kingsport, Tenn.; Virgil Hackler, Detroit, Mich.; Eldon Hackler, Roanoke, and Gene Hackler, Don Hackler and Dean Hackler, all of Galax; one brother, Emmett Hackler, Comers Rock; 29 grandchildren, and a number of great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were conducted at 2 p.m. Sunday at Mt. Vale Methodist Church by the Rev. Robert L. Irwin, pastor of the church, and a former pastor, the Rev. Richard E. Hamblin, now pastor of the South Franklin Methodist Charge, Rocky Mount.

The Rev. Mr. Hamblin gave a funeral message, using a theme which might be called "A Beautiful Sunset - - Hope of a Bright Tomorrow." The Rev. Mr. Irwin also spoke, on "Blessed are the Dead That Die in the Lord."

The choir sang "Amazing Grace" and "Rock of Ages."

Interment was in the Comers Rock Cemetery.

The body rested at Vaughan-Guynn Funeral Home until time for removal to be placed in the church one hour before the services.

Pallbearers were Charles Carico, J. Phil Bennington, M. C. (Buddy) Miller, Clifton C. Simms, Carl M. Williams and Foley Williams.
