Don J. Hackler, 87, of Galax, died Thursday, Jan. 6, 2011, in Forsyth Medical Center.
He was born in Grayson County May 6, 1923, to Wiley and Ennis McGrady Hackler. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by a son, James Larry Hackler.
Survivors include his wife, Grace Elizabeth Liddle Hackler; daughter and son-in-law, Phyllis H. and David Wright; son and daughter-in-law, Don G. and Janet Hackler; daughter-in-law, Judy Hackler, all of Galax, Va.; grandchildren and husbands, Kim and Jay Phipps and Janna and Therron Billings; great-grandchildren, Megan Phipps, Brett Phipps and Nicholas Sage; brother and sister-in-law, Joe Dean and Blanche of Galax, Va.; and several nieces and nephews.
A funeral service was held Sunday, Jan. 9, 2011, at 3 p.m., in Gladeville United Methodist Church with the Rev. Kevin Fiorini and the Rev. Doug Hyndrich officiating. Burial followed in the Gladeville Cemetery. The family received friends Sunday from one until service time at Gladeville United Methodist Church.
