Mildred Hackler Phipps, 75, of Galax, died Tuesday, Dec. 2, 2003, at Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center, Winston-Salem, N.C.

She was the widow of Gladon Mack Phipps.
She was born Feb. 21, 1928, in Comer's Rock to Wiley and Enis McGrady Hackler.

Survivors include three daughters and a son-in-law, Linda and Jack Haynes of Galax, Ella Ruth Liddle of Hillsville and Susan Nester of Garden City, S.C.; two sons and a daughter-in-law, Bill and Judy Phipps and Joe Michael Phipps, all of Galax; one sister, Vena Rhudy of Galax; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Dean and Blanche Hackler and Don and Grace Hackler, all of Galax; two special friends, Douglas Horton of Austinville and Jerry Gibson of Garden City, S.C.; six grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

A funeral was held Friday at Reins-Sturdivant Funeral Home, Independence, with burial in the Grubbs Chapel Cemetery, Independence. The Rev. Bill Guy officiated.
