Born in Grayson County, Va., he retired from Tennessee Eastman Company. He attended Living Praise Assembly of God. He was a member of the Oddfellows Lodge No. 401 and the Kingsport Rebecca Lodge.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Eliza Kate Hackler; parents, John Wiley and Laura McGrady Hackler; brothers, Wayne and Max Hackler; and a grandson, Leon Shelton.
Surviving are his wife, Gladys Hackler, of the home; daughters, Garnieta Shelton, Greeneville, S.C., Mrs. Murrell Goad, Jr., and JoAnne Byrd, both of Kingsport; 12 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren; three sisters and five brothers.
Services will be conducted at 1:30 p.m. today in the funeral home chapel with the Oddfellows Lodge No. 401 and the Rev. Bob Yates, the Rev. Lelbert Throneburg and the Rev. David Frazier officiating.
Burial will be at the East Lawn Memorial Park. Grandsons will serve as pallbearers.
