George Maiden Hackler, 84, 1141 Bridwell Street, passed away Saturday, Jan. 18, 2003, at Wellmont Holston Valley Medical Center.

Born in Grayson County, Va., he served with the U.S. Army during World War II and had lived in Kingsport since 1946. He was employed with Tennessee Eastman Company for 42 years, retiring as a maintenance supervisor in 1982.

Mr. Hackler was a deacon at Litz Manor Baptist Church.

He was also a KYCH York Rite Mason, a 33rd degree Scottish Rite Mason, and a member of the Sons of the American Revolution of Virginia.

Surviving are his wife of 58 years, Johnsie Lee Hackler, Kingsport; one son, Rob Hackler and wife Bea, Canton, Ga.; one stepdaughter, Frances Gillenwater, Charleston, W.Va.; four grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; two sisters, Vena Rhudy and Mildred Phipps, both of Galax, Va.; three brothers, Dean Hackler and Don Hackler, both of Galax, Va., and Eldon Hackler, Roanoke, Va.

Calling hours are from 6 to 8 p.m. today at Hamlett-Dobson Funeral Home, downtown Kingsport.

Services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Tuesday in the funeral home chapel with Pastor Bill Steele and Pastor Wayne Baker officiating.

Burial will follow at East Lawn Memorial Park.
