Evan Ross was born to Joseph Harve Ross and Nancy Williams Ross in Nelson County, Kentucky. It may be that he was born at Roger's Station near Bardstown, but it is also possible that his parents had moved into a residence of their own by this time. Evan Ross married Sept. 5, 1809 to Catharine Ashby (some accounts say 1804 but this is incorrect as his wife Catharine Ashby was born in 1792 according to census records of 1850, 1860, and 1870 for Catharine). Evan Ross was named after his grandfather Evan Williams, but he took after his father Joseph Harve Ross with regards to occupation. Evan Ross was a wheelwright. It appears that Evan and Catharine moved to Spencer, Indiana after having their first four children in Ohio County, KY. At least ten more children were born in Spencer, Indiana. Then abt. 1844, some of the family including Evan and Catharine Ross moved to Wapello, Iowa where Evan died approximately a year later after arrival. It may be that the family returned Evan Ross to Kentucky for burial, but this is not certain. Many of the Ross children/families moved on to Oregon because of early deaths in Iowa due to a variety of illnesses/disease in the 1840's to 1850's. Cholera was a major epidemic during this time. To see recent information regarding the ancestry of Evan Ross, read "The Descendants of Lord Francis Ross" by Charles Brashear, pub. 2011. DNA evidence may now show that this line may be related, but perhaps not directly. It appears now that Evan Ross likely followed his brother William Ross who appears to have been in Spencer, Indiana a few years prior to when Evan Ross arrived with his family.
