Funeral Thursday for Geo. Delperdang
Funeral services for George Delperdang, 86, were held Thursday, May 8, at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Remsen, Iowa. Rev. Richard Birdsall officiated, and burial was in the parish cemetery.
Mr. Delperdang died Tuesday, May 6, at Happy Siesta nursing home in Remsen after a lengthy illness.
He was born Feb. 27, 1894, at Alton, Ia., the son of Anton and Katherine (Sudtelgte) Delperdang. He grew up at Alton and attended St. Mary's Academy there.
His marriage to Clara Majeres took place Jan. 17, 1917, at Remsen. They farmed near Remsen and retired to town in 1956. Mrs. Delperdang died on Aug. 13, 1968. George had made his home at Happy Siesta since October 1979.
Mr. Delperdang was a past director and current honorary director of Farmers Savings Bank in Remsen and a past director of Happy Siesta Nursing Home.
He was a member of St. Mary's Church, Knights of Columbus, Luxembourg Brotherhood of America, and a past member of the Remsen Lions Club.
Surviving are four sons, Marvin of San Diego, Calif., Milton of Marcus, Iowa, Dale of Worthington, Minn., and Anthony of Remsen; a daughter, Mrs. Bernard (Mercedes) Haverkamp of Remsen; 33 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; and one sister, Mrs. U. H. (Martha) Bunkers of Sioux City, Iowa.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; a son, Gerald; two brothers; and two sisters.
Pallbearers were David, Douglas, Gary, Reginald, and Russell Delperdang, and Thomas Haverkamp. Members of the Knights of Columbus were honorary pallbearers. The Fisch Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
