Springfield, IL - Ruth Noble, 95, formerly of Waverly, Ill., died early Wednesday morning, July 3, 2013, at Memorial Medical Center. She was born Nov. 13, 1917, in rural Sangamon County, Illinois, daughter of the late Jess and Mae Coons Davenport.
She married John L.Nobleon July 27, 1942, in St. Louis, Mo.; he preceded her in death on April 9, 2000.
Surviving is a daughter Linda (Chuck) Dutton of Springfield, Ill.; a son, John L. "Larry" Nobe of Murfreesboro, Tenn.; two grandchildren, Teri (Ed) Egnot of Spaulding, Ill., and John "Bill" Dutton of Springfield, Ill.; several nieces and nephews and cousins.
She was preceded in death by her husband; a daughter-in-law, Sue Ann; a grandson, Darren Noble; two brothers, Lester (Lucille) and John (Theresa) Davenport; and two sisters, Dorothy (Tony) Martin and Loucille Davenport.
She was a 1935 graduate of Waverly Township High School; a member of the First United Methodist Church in Waverly, Ill.; a lifetime member of the Independent Telephone Pioneer Assn.; a former member of Linton Temple No. 32, Pythian Sisters, and the Waverly Women's Club.
After graduation Ruth worked for the Illinois Bell Telephone Co. in Springfield as a long distance operator and traffic supervisor for several years. She later worked for General Telephone Company in Waverly and Jacksonville as a service representative and retired as a Records Supervisor after 25 years of service.
She was a avid sports fan. She could always be found in the stands at all the games and sports activities her kids and grandkids participated in. And, she was also a fan, win or lose, of the Cubs, Bears, and Fighting Illini. Her greatest joys were her family and being able to enjoy all heir many activities.
Funeral services will be held at 3:30 p.m., Saturday, July 6, 2013, at the Neece-Airsman-Hires Funeral Home in Waverly, Ill. Burial will be in Waverly East Cemetery. Visitation will begin at 2 p.m. on Saturday and continue until the time of service at the funeral home.
Memorials may be made to Waverly East Cemetery or to Waverly United Methodist Church both c/o the funeral home.
