JESSE DAVENPORT DIES AT HOSPITAL
Jesse C. Davenport, life long resident of this and neighboring communities, died at 11 o'clock Tuesday night at Springfield hospital at the age of 57 years, 1 month and 11 days. He had been ill for about three weeks but was taken worse Tuesday of last week and was taken to the hospital, supposedly for an operation but upon examination it was discovered that his condition would not permit an operation at that time.
Mr. Davenport was born north of Franklin and later moved to this community, being a farmer until about two years ago when he moved to town, since which time he has operated a filling station, being one of the substantial and highly respected business men of this city. He is survived by is wife, Mae; two sons, Lester and John, three daughters, Misses Lucille, Dorothy and Ruth; two brothers, William, of Orleans, and Benjamin, of Alexander; and one sister, Mrs. William Spaenhower, of Waverly.
Funeral services will be held at 1:30 Friday afternoon at the Swift Funeral Home, Rev. Herschel Bowyer, of Cincinnati, Ohio, officiating. Burial will be in Waverly Cemetery.

Jesse C. Davenport, son of J. F. and Louisa Davenport, was born on a farm north of Franklin, Illinois, July 7, 1874,and died at Springfield Hospital Tuesday, August 18, 1931, aged 57 years, 1 month and 11 days.
At an early age he moved with his parents to Franklin where he was united in marriage to Joanna Mae Coons on December 26, 1894. To this union five children were born, Lester, Lucille, John, Dorothy and Ruth who, with the widow survive.
About thirty years ago Mr. and Mrs. Davenport moved to a farm east of Waverly where they resided until January 1929 when they moved to Waverly where they have since resided, Mr. Davenport having engaged in business, operating a service station.
Besides the wife and children the surviving relatives are two brothers, William, of Orleans, and Benjamin of Alexander; one sister, Mrs. W. R. Spaenhower, of Waverly; one granddaughter, Donna Lucille Davenport. One sister, Mrs. Sarah F. Kennedy, preceded him in death.
Funeral services were held at the Swift Funeral Home Friday at 1:30 p.m., Rev. Heschel Bowyer, of Cincinnati, Ohio, officiating.
Burial was in Waverly Cemetery.
