Mrs. Mae C. Davenport died at her home in this city Sunday, May 23, at 4:30 a.m., being 79 years of age. She had been an invalid for 26 years.
Mrs. Davenport was born January 11, 1875, in Franklin, the daughter of the late John M. and Lucinda Smith Coons.
At an early age she united with the Franklin Christian church, under the ministry of Rev. L. L. Swindle, who later officiated at her marriage to Jess C. Davenport, of Franklin, which took place at her home there December 20,1894. Her husband preceded her in death, August 18, 1931.
She is survived by two sons, Lester of Waverly, and John of Long Beach, Calif.; three daughters, Mrs. Dorothy Martin of Owenton, Ky., Miss Loucile Davenport and Mrs. Ruth Noble, both of Waverly; eight grandchildren; and one brother, Bryan W. Coons, of Des Moines, Iowa. Two sisters and one brother preceded her in death.
Mr. and Mrs. Davenport resided on a farm east of Waverly for about thirty years,. In January, 1929, they moved to Waverly, where she had since lived,. At the time they moved to Waverly, Mr. Davenport engaged in the operation of a service station, the ownership of which she continued.
Funeral services were held at the Neece Funeral Home Tuesday afternoon at 2:00 p.m. Rev. Ralph Fitch, pastor of the Methodist church, officiated, assisted by Rev. Robert S. Kater, pastor of the Baptist church.
Interment was in East cemetery.
