John Laurence Noble, 84, of Waverly, died Sunday evening, April 9, 2000, at Walnut Ridge Rehabilitation & Healthcare in Springfield.

He was born April 4, 1916 in New Berlin, the son of John Ludwig and Lena Morgan Noble. He married Ruth Davenport July 27, 19042in St. Louis, and she survives.

He is als0o survived by one son, John Laurence "Larry" (wife, Sue Ann) of Murfvreesboro, Tenn.; one daughter, Linda (husband, Charles) Dutton of Springfield; one grandson; one granddaughter; three sisters, Mabel Nottingham and Edna McConnell, both of Virginia, and Edith Sanders of Union Lake Mich.; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by one grandson; one sister, Frances Speaker; three brothers, Wilbur and two who died in infancy.

Mr. Noble retired in 1992 as a bookkeeper for Whalen Grain in Waverly. He was a veteran of World War II, entering the ser4vice in 1941 and was discharged in 1945, attaining the rank of 2nd lieutenant. He graduated from Springfield High School in 1934. He was a member of the Waverly United Methodist Church, the Waverly Masonic Lodge 118, and a life member of VFW Post 4866 in Waverly.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday at the Neece Funeral Home in Waverly, with burial at Waverly East Cemetery.
