Louis Lester Ziegler DVM, 82, passed away peacefully on May 11, 2013. In 1931, Lou and his identical twin Lee were born in Newell, Iowa to Wayne and Irene Ziegler. When the twins were 11 years old, the family moved to Arizona and grew to a total of 17 children. Lou attended Longview Elementary School and graduated from North Phoenix High School, class of '49. He then joined the Air Force and was stationed in Japan. After 4 years of service, he married the love of his life, Patsy Maybelle Simmons, a high school friend from church. With her at his side, he continued his education in Colorado at Colorado State University, where he ultimately obtained his Doctorate in Veterinary Medicine in 1960. They returned to Phoenix, AZ, where he set up the Christown Animal Hospital and practiced veterinary medicine until retiring in 2006. For 46 years, he was also an active member of the Phoenix Rotary 100 club, conducting the Rotary Mutt Show, Speech Contests, and serving on the board of directors. In addition, he was an active member of Gideons International for several years. Lou is preceded in death by his son Douglas, his parents Wayne and Irene, his sisters Dorothy Wiltbank, Gretchen Marble Shepperd, Karen Branch, and his brother Wayne Jr. He is survived by his wife Patsy, children, Elaine Ziegler Noble, Mike and Pam Ziegler, Tom and Christie Ziegler, and Tricia and Jeff Richards, grandchildren, Jonathan, Philip, Jordan, and Missy Ziegler, Christine and Jeff Tuler, Kimberly and Carl Fredricksen, Cade, Mckenna, and Kailin Richards, and great granddaughter Aven Tuler. His surviving siblings are his twin, Lee, and brothers Jake, Dean, George, Roger, David, Ted, Terry and Joseph, and his sisters, Esther (Michael) Lamb and Wenda Barrett. Visitation will be 6-8pm, Friday, May 17, 2013 at A.L. Moore-Grimshaw Mortuary 710 W Bethany Home Rd. A celebration of life will be held at Bethany Bible Church on Saturday, May 18, 2013 at 10:00am. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Gideons International. Private interment will be at the National Memorial Cemetery of Arizona.
