Howard Arterberry's obituary stated that he was 104 years old when he died in 1953.
From my book, "Through the Orchard, Supplement II" by Nova A. Lemons (1991), on page 9:
"There are several differences in this obituary and it is up to the reader's judgment to determine what facts are correct. To show the inconsistencies, several facts have been detailed below.
The census records show his name as Barnch Howard and some descendants spell his name as Branch. He already had a brother named Bennet(t) who was born circa 1863. The censuses and pension record also show that Howard was born around 1869 and would have been about 84 when he died. The birth date on this obituary may be 20 years ahead. It is likely that he was born in Quincy for his family was living in this area during that time. His father's pension application in 1897 showed that Bennett had 8 children with his oldest child being 43 (born circa 1854) and youngest child 26 (born circa 1871). The oldest one was Frank and youngest John. The census records show that Howard was next to the youngest child, being born around 1869 to 1870."
Censuses:
1850 - Howard's parents were not married. His mother Caroline was still at home with her parents.
1860 - Howard was not listed as one of the children of Bennett and Caroline.
1870 - Howard was listed as 7 months old on this census dated 20 Jun 1870.
1880 - Howard was listed as Barnch H., age 10.
1900 - Howard was listed as born Feb 1872, age 28, with wife Mandy and son Abraham.
So if Howard was born in 1849, he should have showed up on 1850 and/or 1860 censuses.
Perhaps the informant misread the handwriting of 1869 and thought it was 1849. For now, I am leaving his birth year as circa 1869.

Howard Bennett Arterberry, one of the oldest residents of Oklahoma, has died at Chickasha at the age of 104. His life of more than a century spanned careers as minister, railroad engineer, blacksmith and farmer.
The pioneer was born in Quincy, Ill., on February 14, 1849. He went to work for a railroad there as a young man. He married Clara Hillsberry, who died in 1892.
Mr. Arterberry moved to Oklahoma about 1896 and settled near Labanon [Lebanon]. He married Mandy Hillsberry, sister of his first wife, and they moved into Western Oklahoma in 1915.
For 19 years Mr. Arterberry was a Church of Christ minister, preaching at Ada, Wynnewood, Madill, Pauls Valley and Isabel. His second wife died in 1946.
He is survived by five daughters, seven sons, 22 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren, and a brother.
