John was the son of Bennett Arterberry and Cordelia Caroline Hudson. He may have been born in 1871, not 1870. He married Nannie E. (Lane) Mayo on 23 Aug 1899 in Carter Co., Indian Territory (OK).

Obituary from Ada Evening News, 21 Oct 1938 (contributed by Ruth Davis Root):

John Arterberry, 68, of R1, passed away 10-21-1938, 12:30 am at his home, Ada, Oklahoma. Services were held Friday afternoon at 2 pm from the home. Rev. Shipman officiating. Interment was in Memorial Park Cemetery. Criswell Funeral Home is in charge.

Mr Arterberry is survived by 7 daughters, Mrs Tonnie Tatum of Ada, Miss Rosie Arterberry of Tulsa, Mrs Stella Smith of Lawrence, Miss (Evie) Eva Arterberry , Mrs Zonie Honeycutt, Tennie Arterberry, Mrs Myrtle Whitson, Ada, a son, Earl Arterberry of Tulsa. Mr Arterberry was born March 29, 1870, in Illinois, the son of Bennett & Caroline Hudson Arterberry. He married Nannie E Mayo, 8-23-1899, Chicksasw Nation.

NOTE: Tommie (not Tonnie) Tatum was actually his step-daughter, being the daughter from his wife's first marriage.
