David was probably born in New Jersey, but may have been born in Maryland. In about 1820 he married Eleanor Tracy. They had 16 children. Like many Scot-Irish they moved frequently. By 1822 they lived in Perry County, Ohio. Then the family moved as follows within Ohio: in 1831 to Licking County, in 1844 to Knox County, in 1847 to Logan County, and later that same year they moved to Fulton County, Illinois, where David died in 1866.
