ECKHART,MARYLAND -- Melvin L. Duckworth, 88, passed away on Monday, Jan. 14, 2013, at his daughter's house in Holmdel, N.J.
Melvin was born July 2, 1924, in Moscow, to the late Lawson and Carrie (Nichols) Duckworth. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his beloved wife Ruth; three sisters, Corinne Kyle, Gertrude Morgan and Evelyn Maynard and four brothers, Raymond, Edison, Leslie and Wallace Duckworth.
Mr. Duckworth was a graduate of Beall High School in 1943 and a member of Eckhart United Methodist Church, Frostburg, American Legion Post 24 and a past president of Frostburg Lions Club. He was a salesman at Potomac Edison for 22 years then managed the Cumberland Electric store in Frostburg for 14 years. Melvin was a US Army veteran from 1943 to 1946 having served in Europe during World War II.
He is survived by his daughter, Vicki Forbes and husband John, of New Jersey; son, Dean Duckworth and wife Susan, of West Virginia; four grandchildren, Melissa Ferrell and husband James, Annie Forbes, John Forbes and Carrie Forbes; great-grandtwins, Dean and Daniel; his loving sister, Tess Graves and many nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be conducted in Durst Funeral Home P.A., 57 Frost Avenue, Frostburg on Saturday, Jan. 19, 2013 at 1 p.m. with the Rev. George Harpold officiating. Friends and family will be received two hours prior to the service from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.
Interment will be in the Eckhart Cemetery.
Military honors will be accorded by Farrady Post 24 American Legion Honor Guard.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials to Eckhart United Methodist Church, PO Box 444, Frostburg, MD 21532.
