Leonard George Holloway was the first of 6 sons and 2 daughters born to Jasper M. Holloway and Nancy Jane Bowen Holloway in Harrison County, Missouri. Leonard's siblings include: Martha who married Eugene Olmstead & Archie Lowe; Luella, who died in infancy; Orton H., a ranchman living near Akron, Colorado; John W. who was a mechanic in a garage in Blythedale, Missouri, then a farmer in Missouri and Dunlap & Woodbine, Iowa; James Amlick who was a partner in the garage with his brother John, and also involved in farming; Uriah "Scott" a farmer in Harrison County, Missouri, and later Shelby County, Iowa, who 1st married Ethel Dorothy York and after she passed away, married Lucile Davenport; and Newton L.
L.G. Holloway grew up in Harrison County, Missouri, and received a good education there. He also was engaged in farming until he was about 22 years old. Then he worked as a carpenter for about six years. After that, he devoted his time to the work of ministry for the Reorganized church of the Latter Day Saints.
L.G. Holloway belonged to the Quorum of the Seventy and traveled to many states including Washington, Oregon, Montana, South & North Dakota, Wyoming, Idaho, Utah, Colorado, Kansas, Nebraska, Iowa, and Missouri. He was an influential preacher and was effective in building up the congregation wherever he went. For a number of years, he worked in the Lamoni, Iowa area.
Elder Holloway was affiliated with the Lone Rock Church and guided the members and neighbors in erecting a new building prior to 1940. He reported the cost of construction as $600, and labor at $300. They used timber from the neighboring farms, some gave money, others provided labor, and some both money & labor.
On 17 March 1907, in his parents' home in Andover, Missouri, Elder Holloway married Flora Blanche Henderson formerly of Seattle, Washington. To this union, six children were born: Esther Irene (m. Donly Alven Pierson); Erlene Margary (unmarried, died 21 yrs.); Grace E. (1m. Hayes Milton Ashenburst, 2m. Charles Loster), Raymond (m. Jeanette Aletha Sherbondy), Vivian Erletta (1m. Keith W. Lane, 2m. Edgar Besdorf), and Robert V. Holloway (m.Crystal Darnold).
Leonard George Holloway was a democrat in his political beliefs and kept himself informed on all issues. It has been said that he combined his religious zeal with practical efficiency, producing many good works. He was known as a "man of sterling worth".
Leonard George Holloway died on 7 April 1968 in Lamoni, Iowa. He is buried in the Rosehill Cemetery there.
