Robert J. Shrader, 87, died Tuesday, October 23, 2012, at the Brethren Home Community. He was the husband of the late Gloria A. (Horn) Shrader. Robert was born March 2, 1925, in New Oxford, the son of the late Charles A. and Corrine B. (Carbaugh) Shrader. Robert was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in New Oxford, and was a 1943 graduate of Delone Catholic High School. He served as a Sgt. in the U.S. Army during WWII, with the 69th Infantry Division, and was wounded at the Battle of the Bulge. He received the Bronze Star Medal, Good Conduct Medal, Meritorious Unit Emblem, European-African-Middle Eastern Campaign Medal with two bronze stars, WWII Victory Medal, Army Occupation Medal with Germany clasp, Combat Infantry badge, and the Honorable Service lapel button. Robert received a degree in machine drafting and design in September of 1948 from the Industrial Training Institute in Chicago, Ill., was a founding member of the New Oxford Rod and Gun Club, and was a life member of United Hook & Ladder, formerly New Oxford Fire Company, where he served as president and secretary, Upper Adams Fish and Game, where he served as financial secretary, the NRA, and the North American Hunting Club. He and his wife Gloria enjoyed spending time at Kulp's hunting cabin in Clinton Co. Robert is survived by two sons, Stephen J. Shrader and his wife, Brenda, and Stanley A. Shrader and his wife, Darlene, all of New Oxford; three daughters, Roberta A. Poist and her husband, Pat, Jannette M. Smith and her husband, Frank, and Sharon M. Shrader, all of New Oxford; six grandchildren, Shelly, Robert, Megan, Jed, Andrew ,and Josh; two great-grandchildren, Abigail and Cole; a brother, Edward L. Shrader of New Oxford; and two sisters, Lillian Miller of New Oxford and Dorothy Kress. He was predeceased by three sisters, Emma Livingston, Marie Leister, and Corrine "Tiny" Smith; and seven brothers, William Shrader, Francis "Bud" Shrader, Charles "Chat" Shrader, James Shrader, Earl Shrader, George Shrader, and Joseph Shrader.
