Thomas was the son of Richard J. Cashion and Amanda M. Young, who married in Blount Co., Tennessee Feb. 7, 1844. Amanda apparently died when Thomas was very young because Richard remarried on Aug. 23, 1848 in Blount Co. to Isabella J. McCully (or McCulley). Richard, Isabella and Thomas left Tennessee and settled in Fannin Co., Texas in about 1855 when Thomas was 10 years old.
Thomas married (1) Mary Frances Cowsert in Fannin Co. Nov. 26, 1865. They had six children: James Leon Cashion, Richard A. Cashion, Jesse Mason Cashion, A. Blanche Cashion (m. Robert Kennedy Beauchamp), Allie Belle Cashion (m. Charles Lafayette Boze), and Thomas Bartley Cashion. Thomas' wife Mary Frances died April 20, 1886 and is buried at Moore's Chapel Cemetery in Fannin Co. All of their children are linked below except Blanche, who is believed to have died in about 1914, possibly in Foard Co., Texas, where the family appeared on the 1910 US Census, but no grave has been found.
Thomas married (2) Elizabeth D. "Lizzie" Countess in Fannin Co. Nov. 27, 1887. No children were born to this union.

"Sunday night at 7:50 o'clock, Mr. T. L. Cashion quit the walks of life forever. He had been a sufferer for a long time and had tried everything that held out the elusive cup of hope before him. His fight was a brave one and lasted long, but his body became worn and finally yielded to the stronger powers of nature. Sixty-one years he had traveled life's pathway and fifty-one of these he had lived in Fannin county and almost all of that time in Bonham. He leaves a wife and five children, four boys and one girl, to mourn his loss.
"His body will be laid to rest today at Moore's grave yard. The funeral procession will leave here about ten o'clock and the funeral services will be held about 12 o'clock."
