Son of Jesse Cashion and Frances Bradley, grandson of Joel Cashion and Martha Jackson, great grandson of James Cashon and Ann Perkinson, and great great grandson of James Cashon and Sarah (maiden name unknown), all of Chesterfield Co., Virginia.

Jesse and Frances Bradley Cashion and their family moved to Blount Co., Tennessee in about 1826, when Richard was an infant. (The burial location of Richard's parents is unknown, but they are probably buried in Blount Co.)

Richard's siblings are Harriet Elizabeth Cashion (m. James Reed), Edward S. Cashion, William Octavus Cashion, and Lydia Ann Cashion (m. William B. Timmons; her Findagrave memorial is #91621717).

Richard married (1) Amanda M. Young Feb. 7, 1844 in Blount Co., Tennessee. They had one known child - Thomas L. Cashion. Amanda is believed to have died by 1848.

Richard married (2) Mrs. Isabella J. McCully (or McCulley) Aug. 23, 1848 also in Blount Co., Tennessee. No known children were born to this union. Richard, Isabella and Thomas left Tennessee and settled in Fannin Co., Texas in about 1855. Sometime after the 1860 census, Isabella is believed to have died. Her burial location is unknown but presumed to be in Fannin Co., possibly in an unmarked grave at Moore's Chapel Cemetery where Richard is buried.

Richard married (3) Mary Virginia Johnson in Fannin Co. on Feb. 10, 1867. Mary Virginia had come with her family to Fannin Co. in the 1850s from Abingdon, Washington Co., Virginia. Richard and Mary had four children - Harriet Isabelle Cashion, Robert Jefferson Cashion, Richard Martin Cashion, and John Eldon Cashion.

Richard was tragically killed in a wagon accident in 1892. He was survived by his son Thomas L. from his marriage to Amanda Young, and by wife Mary Virginia and their four children Harriett Isabelle, Robert Jefferson, Richard Martin, and John Eldon.

Sources for the above are wills from Chesterfield Co., VA; censuses from Chesterfield Co., VA, Blount Co., TN, and Fannin Co., TX; marriage records from Chesterfield Co., VA, Blount Co., TN and Fannin Co., TX; and Richard's original cemetery headstone.

NOTE: There are two headstones at Richard's gravesite: the original white marble headstone and a gray granite headstone added later. The newer headstone has mistakes. See caption on second photo for explanation.
