PATTERSON -- Melvin James Hickox, 90, died Aug. 22, 2001 at home.

The native of Brantley County lived most of his life in Pierce County. He was a farmer and a member of Bethlehem Primitive Baptist Church. He was the widower of Catherine Mozelle Johnson Hickox and Ina Clara Johnson Hickox.

SURVIVORS: five daughters, Glenda Herndon of Dixie Union, Kathleen Gill of Offerman, Mary Jane Heath of Jesup, Ann Scott and Julia Lawton, both of Waycross; six sons, Clayton Hickox of Jacksonville, Fla., Layton Hickox of St. Marys, Raymond and Steve Hickox, both of Offerman, Wendell Hickox of Blackshear and J. D. Hickox of Patterson; two sisters, Emmie Griffin and Ethel Lewis, both of Nahunta; a brother, Foster Hickox of Nahunta; 39 grandchildren, 39 great-grandchildren, four great-great-grandchildren and several nieces, nephews and other relatives.

VISITATION: 6-9 p.m. today at Pearson-Treadwell Funeral Home in Blackshear.

FUNERAL: 3 p.m. Saturday at Bethlehem Primitive Baptist Church, burial in New Home Cemetery.
