Julia Mozell Hickox Lawton, 83, of Waycross died Tuesday morning (Dec. 9, 2014) at Waycross Health & Rehab after an extended illness. She was born in Pierce County to the late Melvin James Hickox and Katherine Mozell Hickox and lived in Waycross since 1970.
Mrs. Lawton worked as a Dietician for the Waycross School System at Alice Street School and Williams Heights School. She was of the Primitive Baptist faith. Mrs. Lawton was a good cook and loved to cook and also loved spending time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren.
In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband of 62 years, Clyde Ellis Lawton; two brothers, Russell Hickox and William Hickox; one sister, Ann Scott.
Survivors include two children, Karen Boyd and her husband Michael of Waycross and Michael Lawton and his wife Valerie of Waycross; six grandchildren, Brandon Boyd of Destin, FL, Nikki Hartzog and her husband Claude of Barnwell, SC, Blake Boyd of Waycross, Hope Dubose and her husband Drew of Atlanta, Kyle Lawton of Athens, Brett Boyd of Waycross; four great-grandchildren, Alexis, Levi, Rylan, and Roxanna; six brothers, J.D. Hickox of Patterson, Wendall Hickox of Blairsville, GA, Clayton Hickox and his wife Tracy of Florida, Layton Hickox and his wife Petra of St. Mary’s, GA, Raymond Hickox of Offerman, Stevie Hickox of Brantley County; three sisters, Mary Jane Heath of Screven, Glenda Sue Hickox of Patterson, Kathleen Gill and her husband Marvin of Offerman; numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives.
A funeral service will be held Saturday morning at 11 am at the Miles-Odum Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will follow in Oakland Cemetery.
The family will receive friends Friday evening from 6 – 8 pm at the funeral home.
