COURIER JOURNAL OBITUARY - 03/29/2005 - RAYWICK
MATTINGLY - Josephine G., 100, died at 7:10 p.m. on Friday, March 25, 2005, at St. Francis Nursing Center in Loretto, Ky. She was born August 23, 1904, in Forkland, Ky, the daughter of the late Jasper Richard and Manora Burden Galloway. She was a former homemaker and a member of St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church in Raywick. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph Clell Mattingly, on May 20, 1976; a son, Thomas Jasper "Pete" Mattingly on June 25, 1996; eight grandchildren; six sisters, Laura Galloway, Edna Whitehouse, Elizabeth Sweeney, Melvina McCauley, Nancy Merritt and Vera Smith; five brothers, Dreward, Buford, John, Elijah and Bueard Galloway; and three half-brothers, Harry, Edward and Claude Galloway. She is survived by four daughters, Irene "Sis" Cambron and Joyce Ann Thomas, both of Raywick, and Virginia "Bussie" Thomas and Diane Mills, both of Louisville; five sons, Leon "Doc", Clell "Al" Jr. and Larry "Hawk" Mattingly, all of Raywick, Merriell Mattingly of Lebanon, Ky, and Gerald "Jake" Mattingly of Louisville; 44 grandchildren; 79 great-grandchildren; 60 great-great-grandchildren and several stepgrandchildren. Her funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Tuesday, March 29, 2005, at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church, with Rev. James W. Graf. Burial will be held at St. Francis Xavier Cemetery. Visitation will be from 8 a.m. - 10:30 p.m. Tuesday at Mattingly Funeral Home in Loretto. Pallbearers will be her grandsons, Tommy Mattingly, George Cambron, Kevin Thomas, Joey Mattingly, Wayne Mattingly, Steve Thomas, Carl Mattingly, Shane Mattingly, Ronnie Mattingly and Amanda Mills.
