Leonard was the eighth of nine children born to Henry and Minnie (Most) Schafer. He spent most of his life near his birthplace. On March 6, 1932 at Zion Lutheran Church south of Tobias, Nebraska he married Gertrude Meyer.

DAYKIN--Leonard Schafer, 84, Daykin, died Monday, March 20, 1995 at the Jefferson Community Health Center, Fairbury. He was born Aug. 2, 1910 at Tobias and was a farmer.
Survivors: wife, Gertrude; daughters, Darlene Scott and husband Lewis and LaJean Steffensen and husband Glen, all of Friend; daughter-in-law, Catherine Endorf of Daykin; nine grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; brother, Louis Schafer of Geneva; sisters, Hannah Bartels of Fairbury and Emma Bartels of Topeka, Kan. He was preceded in death by his parents, Henry and Minnie (Most) Schafer; son, Gary; sons-in-law, Darrel Hamouz and Leland Schelllhorn; one grandchild; one great-grandchild; one brother and one sister.
Funeral: 2 p.m. Thursday, March 23, Immanuel Lutheran Church, Daykin, Pastor Dwayne Schroeder officiating. Burial: church cemetery. Memorials to family choice. Famiy prayer service: 130 p.m. Thursday, church parish hall. Traum-Vance-Gerdes Funeral Home, Fairbury.
