Seibert was the youngest of 9 children born to Henry Schafer and Minnie (Most) Schafer. He was baptized and confirmed at the Zion Lutheran Church south of Tobias, Nebraska. In November of 1926 he injured himself on a barbed-wire fence at his family's farm and died as a result of infection from those wounds. His mother died when he was 3 years old, and his older sisters became his surrogate mother, especially his sister Emma. He was survived by his father Henry; brothers Fred, Ernst, Louis and Leonard; sisters Margaret, Emma, Hannah, and Elizabeth; step-brothers Herman and Henry Jr.; and step-sisters Lena (Endorf), Bertha (Hahn), Mathilda (Wollenberg), and Amelia.
