Nathan Luther Valentine was born March 3, 1877, in Frederick County, Maryland, the son of Elias Frederick and Anna Maria Wetzel Valentine. On May 18, 1904, in Thurmont, Frederick County, he married Cora Florence Sharrer, daughter of John M. and Anna C. Barrick Sharrer. They were the parents of 6 children: Wilbur Earl, Catherine Anna, Mabel Violet, Nathan Luther, Alice Louise and Francis Edward Valentine. Nathan passed away on January 18, 1952, in Rocky Ridge, Frederick County, and was buried on the 20th in Mt. Tabor Church Cemetery there.

"Nathan L. Valentine, 26, of Rocky Ridge, bachelor, and Cora F. Shearer, 18, of Rocky Ridge, maid. Married May 18, 1904, at Thurmont, by George A. Whitmore. License dated May 11, 1904."


From the WW1 Draft Registration Card, September 12, 1918: Newton Luther Valentine, 41, of Rocky Ridge, Frederick County, Maryland, was born March 3, 1877. He was engaged in Farming on his own land, Rocky Ridge, Frederick County, Maryland. His nearest relative was Mrs. Cora Valentine, Rocky Ridge, Maryland. He was medium in height, slender in build, with brown eyes and hair.

"Nathan Luther Valentine, a well-known retired farmer, died on Friday at three a.m. at his home in Rocky Ridge after an illness of two years. He was a son of the late Elias and Mariah Wetzell Valentine, of Rocky Ridge, and was aged 74 years. He was a member of the Rocky Ridge Evangelical and Reformed Church. Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Cora F. Sharer Valentine, four children, Wilbur, Mrs. Donald Simmers, Luther, all of Thurmont, Mrs. Louise Deweese, Blue Ridge Summit; two sisters, Mrs. Ethel Wood, Emmitsburg, Mrs. Bertha Shriner, Thurmont; nine grandchildren, one great-grandchild and a number of nieces and nephews. The body will be at the late home where friends may call after today at noon. Services will be conducted in the Rocky Ridge Reformed Church Sunday at 2:30 p.m. Rev. Edouard H. Taylor will officiate. Interment in adjoining cemetery. M. L. Creager and Son, funeral director."

"NATHAN L. VALENTINE. Funeral services for Nathan Luther Valentine, who died early Friday morning at his home in Rocky Ridge, were conducted Sunday, 2:30 p.m. at Mt. Tabor Reformed Church. His pastor, Rev. Edouard Taylor, officiated. The church choir sang, 'Going Down The Valley' and 'Never Grow Old.' Services were largely attended and there were many beautiful floral tributes. Pallbearers were: Charles Wantz, Harry Boone, Harry Knight, Floyd Wetzell, Emory Valentine and Roy Sharrer. Interment was in the church cemetery. M. L. Creager and Son, funeral directors."
