Thomas Paul Welch, 98, of Franklin, passed away Monday, February 7, 2011.

Born in Macon Co, he was the son of the late Wilburn E. Welch and Alice Kimsey Welch. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by brothers and sisters, Fred Welch, Louis Welch, Maude Baldwin, Frank Welch, Eula Welch, Ralph Welch, Howard Welch, Bill Welch, Lucy Catway, Adibell Stanley, Edgar Welch, Kenneth Welch and Muriel Welch.

Tom was a US Navy Veteran and served as Chief. He was a member of the American Legion Post 108 and VFW Post 7339. Tom was an engineer and area manager with I.P.S. Utilities Co.; he attended trade schools affiliated with NC State where he received an engineering degree; worked for Macon Furniture Mart and volunteered at the US Forest Service where he worked as a surveyor. Tom was a member of Burningtown Baptist Church.

He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Louise Case Welch; daughter, Dency Dailey and husband Tim of Franklin; two sons, Thomas Ray Welch and wife Shirley of Franklin and Rev. Dr. Patrick Paul Welch and wife Gail of Hendersonville, NC; first wife, Nell D. Welch of Franklin; sister, Joanna Hedrick of Charlotte, NC; twelve grandchildren; twenty-one great grandchildren; five great-great grandchildren; many nieces and nephews; great nieces and nephews and great-great nieces and nephews.
