"Aunt Muriel" Welch, 99, of Franklin, passed away Wednesday, August 11, 2010.
Born in Macon County, she was the daughter of the late Wilburn E. Welch and Alice Kimsey Welch. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by twelve brothers and sisters, Fred Welch, Louis Welch, Maude Baldwin, Frank Welch, Eula Welch, Ralph Welch, Howard Welch, Bill Welch, Lucy Catway, Adibell Stanley, Edgar Welch and Kenneth Welch.
Aunt Muriel loved to read, garden in her flowers and crochet. She was a former Sunday School teacher and was the oldest member of Burningtown Baptist Church. She was a "mother" to many and a "grand-mother" to even more.
She is survived by a brother, Thomas Paul Welch of Franklin; a sister, Joanna Hedrick of Charlotte, NC; 24 nieces and nephews, several great-nieces and nephews and also, several great-great-nieces and nephews.
Funeral service was held at 2 p.m. Sunday, August 15, at Burningtown Baptist Church, with Rev Randy Drinnon officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery. The family received friends from 6-8:00 p.m. Saturday, August 14 at Macon Funeral Home.
