Charley spent his early years in Butler County. His mother died in 1885, when Charley was just eight years old. Two years later, Charley's father moved to Grant County, Kansas, and then in early 1889 moved to Arkansas. We can only presume that young Charley remained with his father during these moves. Charley's father died in 1897, and in 1900 Charley was living with his younger brother John, in Honey Grove, Texas.
Charley married Ida Rose Arnold on July 12, 1904, in Lamar County, Texas. Charley and Ida first moved to Runnels County, Texas. By 1918, they had settled in Hermleigh, Scurry County, Texas. Charley engaged in farming. He and Ida Rose had no known children.
