We think it likely that Samuel was named after his uncle - his mother's brother - Samuel J. Stewart, who also lived in Butler County, and is buried in the adjacent row here at the Little Walnut Cemetery.
Samuel is enumerated on the 1875 Kansas State Census, living in the home of Addison Walden in Bloomington Township. Samuel was 1 year old, and listed as being born in Kansas. He is again enumerated and listed as son in the home of Addison Walden on the 1880 census. Samuel was six years old. Samuel was again enumerated in the home of Addison Walden on the 1885 Kansas State Census. He was 11 years old.
We have been unable to find Samuel after the 1885 census. We believe the article below is actually reporting on Addison Walden's family. Addison's wife, Mary, died in December of 1885, a month before this article. We have also been unable to find Samuel's sister Bertha Rebecca after 1885, and suspect the article is referring to her when it reports that a daughter had just died.

Another death has occurred in the family of Mr. Waldron [sic], living across little Walnut. This time one of his daughters, and another one still lying at the point of death. Mr. Waldron is left with a large family to care for. We deeply sympathize with him and his in their grief.

We believe Samuel is buried in an unmarked grave in the Walden Lot, to the left of Florence Walden, next to the fence.
