NOTE: According to his tombstone, his death date is 13 August 1904. According to his obituary he died 24 August 1901, five miles east of town. If there is evidence to show otherwise, please let me know.

OBITUARY: Pocahontas Democrat, 29 August 1901, Thursday, Pocahontas, Iowa, pg. 2

Maurice Wolfe, age 73, died at his home five miles east of town last Saturday, having been suffering the last two years from a stroke of paralysis. Deceased was a native of Ireland and had lived in Pocahontas county for fifteen years. Eleven children are left to mourn his death, his wife having died about three years ago. Those left are Robt. Wolfe, Mrs. Geo. Bonney, Ed. F. Wolfe of Center Chain, Minnesota, J. J. Wolfe, Mrs. J. B. Albert, Mrs. W. J. Stegge, the Misses Agnes, Julia, Josie and Celia and Maurice. The funeral was held Monday, services being conducted by Rev. W. A. Pape, and the remains being interred in the Catholic cemetery east of town. A large number attended to pay their last respects to their old neighbor and friend.

Maurice Wolfe, son of Edmund and Catherine Stack Wolfe of County Kerry, Ireland. He immigrated to LaSalle county, Illinois about 1853 and moved to Iowa about 1868. On January 11, 1859 he married a cousin Ellen Wolfe in LaSalle county, IL. They had 11 children: Robert Patrick; Catherine; Edward F.; John J.; Ellen "Nellie"; Agnes Mary; Elizabeth; Margaret L.; Maurice: Julia May; Josephine; and Cecelia.
